Stand Still

"Stand still and see the salvation of the Lord." - Exodus 14:13

Have you ever found yourself in a position where there seemed to be no way out? Maybe you're trapped by the consequences of your own decisions. Maybe someone else made a choice that's still hurting you. Maybe no one did anything wrong, but the world still crashed down on you in a way you can't escape.

Have you ever looked around you and found not a single way to step forward, even in a step of faith? Does it seem like every door you reach for is closed and when you pray for direction, you're met with silence?

Did you know that sometimes God works through our stillness? We can get so caught up in our own efforts--even good efforts--that standing still feels like a failure. Shouldn't I be doing more, trying harder, pushing through? Isn't it a failure in my spiritual walk when my prayers don't seem to be effective and I can't get the cloud to lift?

Dear sisters, sometimes what God wants is our stillness. Sometimes He chooses to work only after our frantic action has ceased. I'm not claiming that your efforts are making the problem worse; I'm asking if you're willing to obey when the still, small voice urges you to rest.

Do you find your prayers laced with "but, God"s or "I can't"s when you're faced with the prospect of doing nothing? Sometimes God chooses to work through our stillness. And sometimes those victories are greater than anything we could have accomplished through our action.
