Victory Through Faith

Victory Through Faith

“…this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” (I John 5:4)

“Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea: it shall be done. And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive” ~ Jesus Christ (Matthew 21:21–22).

THAT is victory.

If the victory that overcomes the world is faith, then what is faith? Faith always seemed like a vague, mystic concept that I couldn’t quite put my finger on. It seemed abstract, in the mind or heart only.

Luke 17. At Jesus’ word, ten lepers went to show themselves to the priest. According to Old Testament law, going to the priest was what lepers were supposed to do when they thought they had been healed. Yet at that particular moment, these lepers were as leprous as they had ever been.

But what did they do? They acted as if they were already healed by obeying God’s law for healed lepers. They acted as if Christ’s word was true even when all circumstances were against them – and “going, they were healed.”

Had they decided to wait until they thought they felt better or looked better, they would have remained lepers until the day they died. Their faith made them whole. That’s faith: living and acting as if God’s Word is true even if all else says otherwise. On the other hand, fear is behaving in accordance with what our senses/circumstances/surroundings tell us.

This is the power of faith: when we act as if God’s word is true, He causes it to be fully true in every area of our lives. And that is the victory that overcomes the world in us—today.

But thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, my beloved brethren, be ye stedfast, unmoveable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, forasmuch as ye know that your labour is not in vain in the Lord. (1 Corinthians 15:57-58). Father, I rest in Your victory.

Challenge: what has God spoken to you? If you don’t know, look in His Word. How can you act as if that word He has spoken is fully true in you today? Do it!
